Fr Mathew The Poor • The Resurrection and the Living Hope

Resurrection and the Believer’s Union with Christ

The risen Lord remains actively joined to His people, completing salvation in them and accompanying the Church with His living presence.

The resurrection of Christ has established for our nature the power of resurrection from the dead for eternal life, and our resurrection—as an act of change, renewal, and second birth—begins from now and in this life. Therefore, Christ works in us from now, intimately, to complete our redemption and to complete the components of our resurrection. He works in us through Himself, His Holy Spirit, and the power of His resurrection.

“By so much more Jesus has become a surety of a better covenant. Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.” — Hebrews 7:22,25

“For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.” — Matthew 18:20

So Christ continues to complete the work of our redemption and salvation, and still bears with the preachers—according to His promise—the completion of what He began on the cross:

“All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. Amen.” — Matthew 28:18–20

“A little while, and you will not see Me; and again a little while, and you will see Me, because I go to the Father... Therefore you now have sorrow; but I will see you again and your heart will rejoice, and your joy no one will take from you.” — John 16:16,22

“I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you. A little while longer and the world will see Me no more, but you will see Me. Because I live, you will live also. At that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you. He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him.” — John 14:18–21

“You have heard Me say to you, ‘I am going away and coming back to you.’” — John 14:28

“And they went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word through the accompanying signs.” — Mark 16:20
